What's happening in Volt Slovenia?

Meet us in Ljubljana

We organized our first local Meet&Greet on Nov 15th in Sax Pub in Ljubljana. This will be our monthly slot until further notice, so if you are curious to learn more about Volt, what we are already doing across Europe and what we have planned in Slovenia, join us for our next Meet&Greet Friday, Dec 13th, 18h00-21h00. Our team is looking forward to meeting you.

When and where?
20th of December, 18.00 -- 21.00.

The nuclear referendum that didn't happen

Hladilni stolpi jedrske elektrarne (Lukas Lehotsky/Unsplash)That did not go as planned. We put a lot of effort into developing our position for the referendum and then it was called off... If you want to know why we believe that nuclear needs to be part of our energy mix and how a combination of cross-border and public-private cooperation can limit corruption and reduce the overall cost of the project for Slovenia, read our position statement on our website.

Political programm

With the writing of the Statutes successfully completed, it is time for the next step - the preparation of a comprehensive electoral programme. Preparations are already underway, but we are still looking for experts and insiders who would like to contribute to our vision.

If you have specific skills, experience or ideas, we invite you to share them with us and together we will create the foundation for a successful political action. A quality programme is the basis for a good party and a strong country, and we want to give as many insiders as possible the opportunity to have their say.

Time for signatures

We also need to collect at least 200 signatures to form a party. We will start the process in early 2025.

Your support is crucial for the establishment of the first truly European party in Slovenia. More information will follow in future newsletters, but for now, please consider your support. Every signature counts!

News from Europe

Volt Europa general assembly in Tirana

Generalna skupščina v TiraniWe've just came back from our Volt Europa general assembly which was organized by Volt Albania (yes, we're also active outside of the EU) in Tirana. Sven was there to represent Volt Slovenia together with over 600 Volters from all across the continent for a weekend of networking and discussing the future of Europe. Members adopted our 2029 strategy and a team working with our MEPs on digital topics was officially started and after an intense 48h, everyone left with smiles, motivated to make Europe and the world a little better.

A new European Commission

Volt se je srečal s predsednico Komisije Ursulo von der LeyenI guess you saw it in the news: the new European Commission was validated by a compromise between the Conservatives, Social democrats and liberals. It is the first time in 40 years, the Commission is shifting significantly to the right. Our 5 MEPs who are sitting with the greens had a meeting with Ursula von der Leyen, but we could only talk about competitiveness - we need to have a stronger presence and more experience in order to punch above our weight.

Trump 2.0

Donald Trump is returning to the White House, bringing renewed uncertainty to global politics, especially on tariffs and foreign policy.

Europe must now grow up and become independent. We need closer cooperation between Member States, a European army, a united foreign policy and an economy that is competitive with the world's superpowers. It is time for the European Union to position itself as an equal player between China, Russia and the US, and we can only do this if we remain united.

News from other Volt chapters

German snap elections

You have probably seen it in the news: the traffic light coalition in Germany broke up and snap elections are scheduled for February 2025, five months earlier than the original date. Volt believes it is a pity that faced with the re-election of Donald Trump, the German government did not choose stability but rather added additional uncertainty.

It also means losing precious months to prepare a national election - especially for smaller parties that have to collect a lot of signatures in order to participate. Volt Germany however is on a good way and after a score of 2.9% in the European elections, our German chapter is now aiming to pass the 5% hurdle and enter parliament.

Volt founder and current MEP Damian Boeselager is running as a direct candidate and with Maral Koohestanian, we have a female lead candidate that just has been voted into Capital magazine Top40 under 40 personalities in Germany.

Volt Slovenia is of course helping our German chapter to mobilize the German diaspora living in slovenia to vote, because - every vote can make a difference.
