Volt in Europe
European challenges need European solutions. National parties are reaching their limits and populist promises are jeopardising our peace.
That's why we founded Volt, a movement and party for the whole of Europe.
Volt in Europe

We are the first pan-European party - we make policy for a federal Europe across borders. In 31 countries, we encourage citizens to rethink and help shape politics at local, national and European level.
We are pan-European, pragmatic and progressive. Against the backdrop of shared values and goals, we ask bold questions and make realisable proposals to solve pan-European grievances.

Our vision is a more democratic and transparent Europe that takes responsibility. That is why we want a united Europe and a true European democracy.
We want a strong European Parliament that can propose laws and elects a European Prime Minister who is accountable to our elected representatives. We want a genuine European government that acts in the interests of all Europeans to tackle problems and seize opportunities together.
European politics needs European parties and we are making a new European future electable. Now it's your turn.

Our story - the journey from 2016 to today
2016: Brexit, Trump and populism
In 2016, the Brexit vote and the rise of right-wing populism in Europe prompted two young Europeans to stop standing idly by.
With Volt, Italian Andrea Venzon, Frenchwoman Colombe Cahen-Salvador and German Damian Boeselager created a cross-border political approach for Europe in order to find new, pragmatic and progressive answers to the challenges of our time.

29 March 2017 - The foundation
Just six months later, on 29 March 2017, when the UK applied to leave the EU, they officially founded Volt; a pan-European movement and party.
Volt has come a long way with today over 32 000 members in all EU member states.
2019 - European elections

2019 - European elections
Volt wants to make policy at local, national and European level.
In 2019, Volt contested the 2019 European elections in various EU countries for the first time and ran a cross-border election campaign with a European election programme, in which Damian Boeselager was elected as Volt's first MEP.

Today - local, regional and national successes
In the meantime, Volt has participated in a number of local and regional elections in several European countries, in which more than 200 delegates have been elected so far.
European elections 2024

European elections 2024
It is positive news in the progressive democratic camp: in only its second European election, Volt achieved an election result of 2.6 per cent of all votes cast in Germany. The young party thus significantly exceeded its 2019 election result. Volt now has five seats in the European Parliament.
In addition to Damian Boeselager, co-founder and so far the only MEP from Volt Europa, Nela Riehl, the first German Black lead candidate in a European election, and Kai Tegethoff, a committed local politician and member of Braunschweig City Council, have also made it into the European Parliament. Two other MEPs, Anna Strolenberg and Reinier van Lanschot, come from the Netherlands, where Volt achieved 4.9 per cent of the vote.

2025: Volt Slovenia
Our small team has big ambitions for next year: we want to launch Volt Slovenia as political party and become the 23rd EU member state with a Volt chapter.
There is a lot to do and 2026 national elections are also around the corner. There is a lot to do and if you're wondering when is the right time to become politically active... it is now!
