One could argue that with the inauguration of the new US president, our world history enters a new chapter, one in which partnerships will likely be reinterpreted and rewritten. Europe may very well find itself alone in the world holding up democratic values and systems that albeit all its shortcomings, still aim to guarantee equal rights and equal opportunities. We will probably need to stand closer together and begin speaking with one voice - the voice of the European Union. This will require long overdue reforms of European Institutions. Europe can no longer only have an economic dimension, we desperately need a political Europe representing 450 million people and their interests.
