Canal C0: Environmental impact anyone?

In 1993, Cypress Hill released the song: "When the 💩  goes down". It fits the situation around the wastewater Canal C0, a 12 km long canal, whose building permit for the final 128m was paused last month due to environmental concerns. The reason: the section is crossing the water-protected area Kleče which supplies Ljubljana and surroundings with drinking water. Construction was stopped, because there was no environmental impact study and it was literally not possible to determine if drinking water will be polluted "when the 💩 goes down".

Environmental impact studies are made for a reason. They assess whether it is safe to undertake a construction project - not only for the environment, but also for citizens. Studies need to be made for projects of a certain size and, in the case of the canal, would probably suggest routes that minimised risks. Whether to avoid the cost for doing the studies or to hide risks from the population,  the City of Ljubljana (MOL) splitting the project into smaller parts raises eyebrows.

Volt Slovenia supports Špela Knez who rightfully prioritised the security of the population and stopped the project until authorities determined, if an environmental impact study was required. Volt Slovenia also hopes, the City of Ljubljana has a contingency plan, "when the 💩  goes down" and the canal turns out to be too risky to be built on the chosen track. It would mean that a lot of public money would have been wasted by dodging a proper impact study.
